Wekfest — A Sunday at Navy Pier

If you ever run out of ideas for what to do in your city — go look at cars.

Having a camera and a love for cars gave me a reason to attend Wekfest, hosted at Chicago’s Navy Pier. It featured a wicked selection of vehicles from the pristine to the rebellious — aggressive builds, clean OEM, patina stories, and everything in between.

These were my favorite picks. Or in other words, the only pictures that came out good. Or maybe the only cars worth taking a million photos of just to find the right one.

E30 BMW lineup

E30s posed like they were waiting for a mixtape cover.

Respect Your Elders sticker

Message received: Respect your elders.

Green NSX

A mint green NSX sat like an anime villain's dream.

Red BMW wheel detail

Details like these speak louder than revs.

Rusted Porsche

A rusted-out Porsche looked like it drove straight out of a post-apocalyptic film set.

People and motion

The crowd had as much character as the builds.

A future note to self: strike more conversations with the car owners. These builds had stories — thousands of dollars, hours, and arguments woven into each mod. What I deemed ‘cool’ might’ve been someone’s tribute to their childhood, or their late father’s garage.

Either way, the photographs captured the surface. Next time, maybe I’ll dig deeper.

Until then — here’s to a life full of car shows, film rolls, unexpected inspiration, and well-parked dreams.

Field Notes

  • • Car shows are museums without velvet ropes.
  • • Photography is how I participate without needing to speak.
  • • Every photo is a reason to leave the house again.
